List of Public Libraries Awarded 2002 Construction Bond Grant

Atlantic County

Pleasantville Branch - A new library building of 13,000 square feet located in a municipal complex. Plans include a nice children's area and community room.

Ventnor Branch - A renovation (3,100 square feet) and addition project (10,342 square feet) of 13,442 square feet. A functional and attractive small library facility.

Bergen County

Bergenfield - A renovation (10,868 square feet) and addition project (13,665 square feet). Nicely developed children's and young adult area.

Closter - An addition (9,950 square feet) and renovation (5,842 square feet) project totaling 15,792 square feet. Added several service areas including, expanded children's and reference space, nice community room, attractive art gallery and display areas.

Franklin Lakes - A renovation (12,228 square feet) and addition (10,511 square feet) project. An attractive and functional building with many interesting features.

Glen Rock - Renovated 9,132 square feet and added 4,200 square feet. Doubled the seating and computer capacity. Nice improvements include a young adult area, story hour room, children's services office, more shelving space and quiet study.

Hasbrouck Heights - A new 19,536 square foot library within a municipal building. This attractive facility replaces an 85-year-old building. Nice service areas that customers will welcome.

Hillsdale - An addition (5,500 square feet) and 12,775 square feet renovation project totaling 18,275 square feet. Added new spaces for young adults and children, collections, expanded meeting facilities and staff work areas. ADA compliant.

Leonia - Renovated 12,636 square feet. Created more space for children's services. Efficient layout. Nicely used previous storage space and quiet study areas.

Little Ferry - Purchasing additional property for a 5,167 square feet addition and will renovate 3,082 square feet. Added meeting space and nicely enlarged the children's area.

Maywood - A renovation (12,046 square feet) and addition (2,326 square feet) project. Added meeting rooms, created a computer lab, quiet study, and a local history room. Addition is nicely developed children's wing.

Montvale - The library (15,341 square feet) will be on the first floor of the municipal building. The current library is in a building 93 years old. Additional services will be offered in the new space. Nice children's and young adult area and quiet study place.

Oakland - Renovation of 11,078 square feet and an addition of 11,826 square feet, totaling 22,904 square feet. Good design merges the one story addition to existing building, which will move children's services to the main level with nice design features. Will alleviate crowding in adult services.

Park Ridge - Addition of 760 square feet. This project will provide easy access to meeting rooms and restrooms for the library as well as seating and display space.

Ridgefield - A new building of 14,600 square feet will add space for services not available before. Nice meeting room and staff room.

Tenafly - Addition (2,172 square feet) and renovation (7,505 square feet) project. The addition created space for over 20,000 volumes. The renovation created space for an art gallery and community events.

Waldwick - Renovation of 4,293 square feet and an addition of 2,043 square feet, totaling 6,336 square feet. The increase of 30% to the building adds space for services to children and an improved meeting room. Expanded floor space to house more books and media.

Washington Twp. - Added 3,643 square feet and renovated 8,986 square feet. Added additional seating, a meeting room and well planned computer space for adults and children.

Westwood - A renovation of 7,765 square feet. Project created an area for young adults and nicely planned additional computer space.

Burlington County

Bordentown Branch of Burlington County Library with an addition of 8,438 square feet and a renovation of 3,150 square feet. A nice expansion of areas for children's and adult services and materials. Separate computer room, quiet study, and activities room.

Pemberton Branch - A new building of 19,787 square feet. A state of the art library in a beautiful natural setting. Good use of technology in well planned interior.

Willingboro - Renovation of a purchased building of 57,520 square feet. The library will be part of the town center with extensive room for books, computers, and services.

Camden County

Cherry Hill - A 75,410 square foot new building to replace existing 28,000 square foot facility. Library is well designed for current and future needs - state of the art with an inviting atmosphere. 

South County Regional Branch- A 21,500 square foot new building to serve as a branch of the Camden County Library System. The new building is state of the art, with a beautiful children's area, a public meeting room, a computer-training lab, and a café for customers to enjoy.

 Cumberland County

Vineland - A 6,180 square foot addition to a renovation of a 24,200 square foot building, totaling 30,380 square feet. Will allow Vineland to offer extensive new services in the teen room, community room, and expanded children's area. Comfortable café.

Essex

Livingston - Proposed addition of 34,578 square feet. All public service areas will be on one level and the library will be made barrier free with more room for collections, children and young adults, a meeting room, café, study rooms, and reading areas. Attractive design with unique features.

Newark - A renovation of 14,700 square feet to redesign lobby/entranceway to make room for materials and computers. ADA compliant. Window restoration and replacement. Functional and inviting lobby/entrance design.

West Caldwell - An addition of 2,261 square feet and renovation of 11,067 square feet to construct a meeting room, study rooms, storage, an area for young adults, nice gallery and state of the art wiring for teleconferencing and computers.

Gloucester County

Franklin Township - New building of 12,804 square feet. Designed to be a community center with inviting atmosphere for activities and reading, listening and browsing. Attention to young adults in newly designed area.

Greenwich Branch of the Gloucester County Library - A new branch library of 8,826 square feet. Functional, flexible, inviting building to replace library in a school, which they will have to vacate.

Hunterdon County

Hunterdon - Renovation of 34,000 square feet and addition of 22,000 square feet, totaling 56,000 sq. ft. A three-story addition to create more public space. Project makes the library ADA compliant and creates more space for children's service, young adults, and AV materials. Enlarges meeting space and quiet study areas. Administration area in upper level to be renovated.

Mercer County

Princeton - Will build a new library of 54,907 square feet. State of the art facility to be the center of learning and the center of the community. This three-story library will combine the traditional library of books with rapidly growing digital technology. Doubles current capacity of existing building.

Middlesex County

Carteret - Renovation (22,454 square feet) and addition (4,734 square feet) to purchased building. Nicely integrated project with Senior Center. Total project size of 27,188 square feet.

Edison - Clara Barton branch renovation (4,935 square feet) and addition of 1,760 square feet, totaling 6,695 square feet. Nice branch library with an inviting exterior. Project will create space for extensive new shelving to house more books and young adult materials.

Middlesex - Renovation of 3,300 square feet, and addition of 6,533 square feet. Creates a new meeting room, more space for children's services and a technology center.

South Brunswick - A renovation of 17,988 square feet, and an addition of 16,472 square feet. Total project size is 34,460 square feet. Will expand children's services, adult reading areas, young adult area, computer services and shelving for materials. Will provide room for storage and further future expansion in lower level. Functional and attractive design.

Monmouth County

Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library - Extensive renovation (37,500 square feet) and nice 9,500 square feet addition. Project will double the size of the children's room and double the size and number of public computers. Quiet study, young adult area, coffee bar, casual seating space and state of the art cabling.

Long Branch - Long Branch is building an addition of 800 square feet and renovating the 21,200 square feet of their 1921 Carnegie building. A new children's reading room will be added and a program room for community meetings.

Middletown - An addition (13,008 square feet) and renovation (26,000 square feet) project. An attractive facility designed to be service oriented. Expanded adult services area and reference, a teen area, larger children's area, quiet study rooms, a computer lab, meeting room, café, and strong emphasis on technology. Nice design features.

Ocean Township Branch - Renovation and addition to a purchased building for a total project size of 19,678 square feet. Attractive and inviting. Project creates meeting rooms, activity rooms, reading room, and young adult and expanded children's areas. Very functional with nice design features.

Morris County

Chathams - 28,780 square foot project. Added 10,200 square feet and renovated 18,580 square feet. Adds a third meeting room, nicely expands children's area and reference, creates a young adult area. Big increase in collection space for books. Quiet study. Upgrading of technology throughout.

Chester Borough and Chester Township - Existing 7,700 square foot building will be renovated and an addition of 7,500 square feet will provide a total of 15,200 square feet. Project will create a new nice meeting room, children's room, history room, young adult room, expanded workspace for staff and more lobby room for reading and browsing.

East Hanover - Renovation of 2,817 square feet and an addition of 3,727 square feet. Expanded children's area, added a pleasant activities room, and increased seating throughout the library.

Florham Park - A renovation (5,736 square feet) and addition of 9,245 square feet, totaling 14,981. Adds a nice meeting room for ninety people, more room for collections and seating in children's area, a new young adult area, quiet study room, and periodicals area. ADA compliant.

Kinnelon - Renovation of 8,150 square feet and an addition of 10,801 square feet, totaling 18, 951 in total project size. Quadrupled the size of the children's area, expanded the young adult area, meeting rooms and office space for unique adult education program. Increased collection capacity by 27% and computer area by 80%.

Long Hill - New library building of 15,175 square feet. Well laid out project creating room for many services. Good use of quiet study areas. Replaces a building of 5,000 square feet.

Montville - Renovation of 5,484 square feet. Enlarging nice youth services area, materials storage, and computer services.

Morris County - Renovation of 30,965 square feet, and an addition of 39,015 square feet, totaling 69,980 square feet in total project size. Project designed for great expansion of books, reference services, and media. Nice gallery connection between the renovation and the new addition.

Morristown and Morris Twp. - An addition of 13,800 square feet to historic library building. Enlarges children's area, reallocation of space for other services, nice computer training room and space for more computers.

Mount Olive - Will vacate a library of 7,850 square feet and build a new building of 27,700 square feet. Emphasis on technology, quiet study, local history room, program room for 70, story/craft room for children's services. Nice design features.

Mountain Lakes - Renovation of 504 square feet and an addition of 434 square feet. Project creates nice expansion of the children's services department.

Parsippany - Purchased and renovated a 38,000 square foot building and tripled the parking space. Major nice expansion of the children's area and creation of a young adult area, and study rooms.

Riverdale - Addition of 4,617 square feet to library of 960 square feet and a renovation of 3,400 square feet resulting in a library of 8,017 square feet. Expansion of all service areas, especially children's. Art gallery is a special feature.

Ocean County

Ocean County -- Project size of 112,750 square feet, renovating 54,360 square feet and adding 58,390 square feet. Distinctive design. Consolidating collections and services from other buildings. Increases collection capacity, public seating, computer services, youth services, a nice programming room, conference and quiet study areas, maintenance and delivery services. Attractive design which integrates older section with new.

Passaic County

Haledon - An 8,338 square foot renovation of an historic mill in which the library and municipal offices is located. Nice increase in space for computers and children's services.

Hawthorne - An addition of 5,325 square feet. Designed a nice children's wing and a 325 square foot area for young adults. Wing includes a computer room for children.

Somerset County

Franklin Township - A 34,300 square foot project with an addition of 16,014 square feet and a renovation of 18,286 square feet. Very functional with room for future expansion. Nice media room.

Hillsborough Branch - Renovation of 4,500 square feet and addition of 9,100 square feet totaling 13,600 square feet. Adding a program room for children, expanding the children's area, separate area for young adults, staff space and storage. Increased adult services area.

Rocky Hill  - Mary Jacobs library is a branch of the Somerset County Library. Adding a two-story addition of 10,865 square feet and renovating 9,709 square feet. Enlarged children's and young adult area, capacity for books expanded, more computers, more meeting space, staff space, and ADA compliancy.

Somerset County Library - An addition of 7,743 square feet and 43,246 square feet of renovation in Bridgewater. Well-designed training room. Nice young adult area. Interior renovations permit space for expansion of collections and services.

 Warren Township Branch - Renovation of 4,666 square feet and adding 9,528 square feet, totaling 14,190 square feet, nicely expanding children's services and adult areas and enlarging the meeting room.

Sussex County

Wantage Branch - New building of 12,400 square feet. Meeting room seats for 214 people, quiet study room, increasing collection space. Attractive design. Replaces previous building, which was built in 1833.

Union County

Cranford - Renovating 14,008 square feet and adding 5,400 square feet. Nice expansion of the children's area and second floor expansion area. ADA compliancy. Upgraded technology.

New Providence - 3,628 square feet addition and renovation of 10,280 square feet. Adding meeting room, staff lounge, storage, restrooms, adult seating and collection space. Well-designed flexible facility with room for future growth.

Plainfield - Renovation of 6,586 square feet. Includes functional climate-controlled room for local history, adult literacy space, computer lab, book browsing areas, and offices

Rahway - New building of 55,725 square feet with large meeting room, quiet study, young adult area, study and reading spaces, café, and technology learning center. Children's area nicely laid out. Emphasis on technology throughout building.

Union - Renovation of 650 square feet and addition of 1,202 square feet. Creates a nice meeting room and places children's services out of the basement and into the upper level.

Warren County

Phillipsburg - Renovation of 5,370 square feet and addition of 6,150 square feet. Good public service area design. Doubled the children's room, doubled library shelving and collection space, tripled reader seats. Added room for more computers. New story room and story room lobby.
