Strategic Planning Boot Camp - Atlantic County Library, Mays Landing

October 26, 2011 (full day) & December 8, 2011 (follow up half day)

The New Jersey State Library and LibraryLinkNJ supports strategic planning as a management tool to determine a library’s mission, vision, values, goals and objectives, roles and responsibilities, and to determine benchmarks and timelines that will shape the library’s future. All libraries should have an updated strategic plan of three years, initiated by the Board of Trustees, to meet challenging community needs. This plan requires updating on a regular basis.

Strategic planning takes time and effort as the plan must be research-based. For those libraries wanting assistance in completing the steps necessary to prepare a strategic plan, the New Jersey State Library, in partnership with LibraryLinkNJ, is sponsoring two workshops, plus two follow-up workshops on strategic planning, presented by the Ivy Group.  These are really boot camps designed to help you complete the research required for a solid strategic plan in six (6) weeks.

Workshops are limited to 30 attendees (15 libraries in each workshop), and it is mandatory that both the director and a library trustee attend BOTH workshops together.  Priority will be given to libraries with no strategic plan.

In addition, library directors and trustees who have attended these sessions will have the opportunity to discuss their strategic plan individually with the Ivy Group at a reduced rate negotiated by the State Library.
